DESTINATION TRAVELOUGE (TENOM)

    TENOM WITH A SMALL TOWN BUT FULL OF UNIQUENESS

Travelling is such a fun activity that I ever do in live especially go to place where you never go and try to seek an attractive place that suit to you. I found that i really love go to Tenom. On 1st December 2022, I decide to go this place when I saw an video about this place on Youtube by travel youtuber last week. This is such a great place and suit to me as a traveler who love nature and chill out with coffee since I am a coffee lover.

Tenom is one of district that located in Sabah,Malaysia and Murut is the majority ethnic in this district. Tenom has a small town and it is surround  by river and crooker range and this landscape make Tenom such a unique town when I reach this place. I decide to go to some tourist attraction in Tenom as my journey to this town.

MURUT CULTURAL CENTER

    Before I reach to Tenom town, I saw a signboard about Murut Cultural Center and I decide to go that place. It is a cultural center about Murut tribe in Sabah since Tenom also known as 'capital place' for Murut tribe in Sabah. 

    What caught my attention her is the design of the building which is 90% made of logs and decorated with cravings from the Murut tribe. This building is like a long house but more bigger and complex. Before enter inside this building, there is a Gong that guest must hit three times and this is one of Murut tradition called 'Tuka-tuka'. There is a lot of  artistic products such as weaving, paintings, sculptures, musical instrument produced by the Murut Tribe are exhibited here.

 

    This is such a beautiful place that contribute to the tribe for their uniqueness cultural. The guide in this place also tell that Murut tribe will celebrate Pesta Kalimaran every year which is a celebration of handicrafts and arts. The Murut Cultural Center will be a place where all Murut from Sabah,Sarawak and Kalimantan gather to celebrate it together as a one big family.

   

  MUSEUM ANTANOM AS MUSEUM THE STORY OF MURUT GREAT WARRIOR

    After that, when I reach at Tenom town, I took a breakfast a cafe and then I was interested when I saw a statue such as a warrior in front of the museum called Museum Antanom. I asked one of the local people there about the statue that located at the middle of the town. It is a monument to commemorating the Ontoros Antanom, a warrior of Murut Tribe that against the British occupation during the colonial era. I decided to go inside the museum to know more about this warrior after breakfast.

       Inside this museum, it is a storyline about the Ontoros Antanom on how he against the British occupation with full of brave and be a leader when he successful unite the Murut tribe. Some weapon also show in this  museum that often use by the Murut tribe when they go to war and pratice the headhunting. Murut tribe also known as a headhunter but nowdays, they do not practice the headhunting tradition anymore but success on any sector.

 

SABAH AGRICUlTURE PARK 

    Sabah Agriculture Park is one of the tourist attraction that we must go when we go to Tenom. It is a biggest agricultural in Sabah with a lot of flower and plant in this place. It is also a beautiful place who love flower and plant.

 

    This park is very spacious and there are several cafes and stalls available in this park. This fertile land in this district has cause agricultural in this Tenom district to grow. there are various types of forest fruits and also flowers found in the deep tropical rain forest can also be found in this. The construction of this park is seen as one of the tourist attractions that not only generates income for the occupation found in Tenom, but also becomes one of the symbols that Tenom is also famous for growing fruits, vegetables and flowers.

    The interesting experience in Tenom has opened my eyes that there is beauty in a small area and this motivates me to continue exploring other destinations to explore the uniqueness and beauty hidden in a place.
